The Princess Diana Museum - Simon Barnes, Spinal Research Charity Supporter - Part 2

Simon Barnes, Spinal Research Charity Supporter Season 1 Episode 14

Simon Barnes who was bound to a wheelchair from the age of 21 after a spinal injury during an army assault course shares how he first met Princess Diana after him and two friends completed a ride in their wheelchairs from Land’s End to John O’Groats in 1986.

Diana and Simon became friends when Diana supported The International Spinal Research Unit that he worked for - she said: “She told me that when we’d found a cure for paralysis and I was back on my feet she’d have the first dance with me.”

He recalls one of his highlights was during one of his many visits to Kensington Palace as Diana walked him to his car. Simon stands (with assistance of a brace) next to Princess Diana and his car. Diana asked a person passing by if they could take the photo.

Visit the Princess Diana Museum to see the items we discussed during this interview and the tiny clay "Platypus" in 3D that started this non-profit foundation and how you can help give back.
